Yes, we are finally bringing back our CLOTHESLINE ART SHOW after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Reserve the dates in June 2022!
Hudson Society of Artists (HSA) will host its annual Clothesline Art Show on June 16 & 17 during the Hudson Home and Garden Tour. Artwork will be on display Friday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a new location; the East Woods Intermediate School, 120 N. Hayden in Hudson Ohio, also the site of the Hudson Garden Club’s Garden Shop and Tea Room. The Clothesline Art Show is free and open to the public.
There will be about 250 paintings on display hung by clothespins -- watercolors along with oils, acrylics and mixed-media pieces. Most pieces are unframed, matted and wrapped in protective plastic. Prices range from about $15 to $200. All artwork is original; there are never prints in the show. Visitors can also enjoy artist demos by HSA members.
At the first show in 1963, students of Hudson artist Lowell E. Smith hung their paintings from a clothesline on a porch on Division Street. Today, although the clothespins are clipped to aluminum panels indoors, the spirit of the show continues.
Ten percent of the proceeds from the Clothesline Art Show and other annual shows that the group sponsors benefit HSA’s scholarship fund, the Lowell E. Smith/Margaret Roby Memorial Scholarship. Each year the award is presented to a senior Hudson High School art student.
The Hudson Society of Artists meets the first and third Mondays of the month from September to the beginning of June. Programs begin at 7:30 pm at Barlow Community Center and are open to the public. Content includes demos, talks and critiques. Membership is open to artists of all ages and abilities, from professionals to beginners, as well as to those who simply enjoy the arts. Members need not live in Hudson to join.
